Our flock...

This summer I decided to make the switch from Suffolk sheep to Katahdin and Dorpers. Both breeds are "hair" sheep, they shed their wool which means no shearing! I found a nice little flock of two Katahdin and two Katahdin/Dorper ewes to replace my 'woolies'. I ended up with four beautiful Katahdin lambs as well.

I am very happy with the change. No shearing, the lambs are huge, strong, and grow very fast, the ewes are excellent mothers, and they are all a good manageable size. So happy in fact, that I am adding 6 Dorper ewes and a Ram to my flock this September!

I HAVE NO MARKET LAMBS LEFT, However I am creating a buyer list for 2010. Please contact me if you would like to be added to my list. Our lambs are hay/grass fed, naturally raised with lots of personal attention (happy sheep!) -no chemicals, growth hormone, or other nasty stuff that is so common in our food these days. I am happy to promote healthy, happy, locally raised food!

New to Empty Cup Ranch... Goats!

I am so thankful to Wind Sheperd Farm of Keremeos BC for giving me the opportunity to add two wonderful goats to our farm! Joining us is "Odda Aerial", a registered Saanen doe (our future milker) and "Oberon", our young pure Boer buck.

We should have some kids available for pets or market starting in 2010. One is reserved for our own table, but if Odda has  twins one will be offered for sale. These will be Boer/Saanen crosses which should yield a fair sized market kid, and might also be worthy as a future homestead milker.
